Hello Runners,
Congratulations on being a part of one of the oldest road races in Canada and the second oldest 10 mile race in North America. Runners from the United States, all parts of Canada and throughout Northwestern Ontario made their way to Thunder Bay to help us celebrate the 75th. running of this historic event.
A special thank you for the continued support of the Thunder Bay Professional Firefighters Association as the major sponsor. Their contribution both financially and through their volunteer efforts was outstanding.
The 75th. edition contributed to the increased popularity of the 10 miler. We had a record number of entries (595)and a record number of finishers (565). This combined with the 40 school relay teams gave us close to 800 total runners. Congratulations to all finishers, especially those who challenged themselves for the first time over 10 miles.
After an absence of a few years, runners from the Duluth area made their presence known with excellent performances. Katie Koski won for the 6th. time and new comer Eric Hartmark took the men's title. Please check out the results page to see how you did.
Only a minor change to the route this year with the addition of a loop in Marina Park plus a little bit of a hill getting you in and out of the park. Hope you enjoyed the view. The great weather brought out many spectators who cheered on all the runners. Your support is one of the reasons the runners consider this race so special. What a thrill to have so many people cheer you on as you make those last few strides to the finish line.
Thanks to our associate sponsors: Fresh Air Experience, Thunder Bay Realty (Where's Aran), Marostica Motors, and Daniar's Transmission and Natural Health and Chiropractic.
We very much appreciate the continued support of our trophy sponsors and supporters (listed) and the many volunteers who unselfishly donate their time, effort and resources.
The 75th. running of the Firefighters 10 Mile Road Race was truly special and I hope it brought you fond memories as you look back on your accomplishments. I look forward to seeing you May 18, 2009 as we write a new chapter in the rich history and tradition of this great event.
Keep on running,
John Garland
